Driving for work medicals
D4s for bus & lorry drivers and medicals for commercial and fork-liftdrivers
Professional drivers in the UK are required to undergo a medical to ensure they are fit to operate vehicles safely and responsibly.
If you hold a commercial driver’s licence to drive vehicles such as lorries, coaches, buses and taxis, you are required to have a D4 medical.
It will ensure that you are able to operate vehicles safely, and that you reach the Group 2 standard defined by DVLA. It will help to identify any medical conditions which could affect your ability to drive and ensures that you are taking any required medication or undergoing treatment to manage those conditions.
D4 medicals help to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries occurring on the road.
How does it work?
A D4 medical requires completion of the D4 form, a review of your medical history, and an examination of your health including vision and blood pressure. If required, other medial tests may be requested.
A D4 medical may find you have vision or hearing problems, as well as certain medical conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.
Additional medical information or further testing may be required if you have a medical condition that may affect your ability to drive safely.
The information we gather will be shared with the DVLA to help them determine your fitness to drive.
